Peter Pan by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie is the story of the boy who wouldn’t grow up and can also fly, who feels that dying is an ‘awfully big adventure’. One evening, the mischievous protagonist flies into the bedroom of three young children Wendy, John, and Michael, teaches them to fly, and takes them to the magical Neverland. There begins a series of adventures featuring lost boys, pirates, Indians, wild beasts, mermaids, fairies, and the dreaded Captain Hook! Peter is fearless and there is hardly anything he cannot do. The book teaches the importance of friendship, courage, sacrifice, family values, and choosing right over wrong, always. The 1924 silent film, the 1953 Disney animated film, a 2003 dramatic/live-action film, a television series, etc., based on this character made him a part of popular culture. A much-loved classic which symbolises every child’s secret dream, Peter Pan is widely read the world over by both children and adults!
